Filing an FIR in Pakistan is the first step to get justice. Many people don’t know the correct method, so their case gets delayed.
What is FIR?
FIR means First Information Report. It is filed under Section 154 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Once FIR is filed, police must start investigation.
Step by Step Procedure:
Step 1: Go to Nearest Police Station
Go to the police station where the crime happened. You can file FIR 24 hours a day. It is free, you don’t need to pay any fee.
Step 2: Write Application
Write an application to SHO. Mention your name, CNIC, address, date and time of incident, place, and complete details of what happened. If you know the accused, mention his name.
Step 3: Police Will Read Your FIR
Police officer will write your statement in Register No.1. Read it carefully before signing. Make sure all details are correct.
Step 4: Get Your Copy
After signing, police must give you a free copy of FIR. This is your right. This copy is very important for court.
What if Police Refuses to File FIR?
If police refuses, you have 3 options:
1. Go to DPO or District Police Officer
2. File complaint online on Punjab Police website (for Punjab)
3. Go to court under Section 22-A and 22-B. Judge will order police to file FIR.
