What the result means
Active Filer
The person appears on the current Active Taxpayer List, which means FBR counts them as having filed the required income-tax return. Filers are charged lower withholding tax on many transactions.
In-Active Non-filer
Registered with FBR but not on the current list. Higher withholding rates can apply, and some property and vehicle transactions can be restricted. See FBR's withholding tax rate card for current rates.
Late filer
A return was filed after the due date. FBR can require a statutory surcharge before the person is added to the list, and a late-filer rate may apply for certain transactions.
No record
The number is not registered with FBR, or it was typed wrongly. Check the digits first. If it is correct, the person needs an NTN before they can file and appear on the list.
Still showing In-Active after filing?
1. The list has not refreshed yet
The Active Taxpayer List is updated on a schedule, not instantly. If you filed or paid recently, wait for the next update before assuming something is wrong.
2. The return was saved but not submitted
A draft in IRIS does not count. Open the return and confirm it shows a submission acknowledgement with a date and reference number.
3. You filed after the due date
A late return may need a surcharge to be paid before you are added. Check the amount and payment steps on FBR's ATL information page.
4. You are searching with the wrong number
Individuals are checked with the 13-digit CNIC; companies, AOPs and registered businesses use the NTN. A business and its owner can have different status.
5. The return was for a different tax year
The list is built from a particular tax year's returns. Filing the next year's return early does not change the list that is live today.
